Clarence "Big Daddy" Devers


Mr. Clarence Devers was born December 24, 1908 to Mr. Elbert Devers, Jr. and Mrs. Martha Burch Devers, the second son of the union. 

In 1922, at the age of fourteen, he accepted Christ and united with the Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. M. A. Coleman, and remained a member until death. 

In 1931, Mr. Devers united in Holy Matrimonu with Miss Juanita Cooks Devers who preceded him in death. His only sister, Lurlene Devers Douglas and three brothers, Ray Field, John and William Devers, also preceded him in death. 

To cherish his memory at his death, he left six sons, Clarence M. (Fannie Mae) of Shreveport, Louisiana; Marshall L., Tulsa, Oklahoma; John Henry (Rubie G.), Compton, California; Rev. Larry Marden (Alave), San Diego, California; Raymond L. (Billie), Marshall, Texas; Rev. A. Bernard Devers (Deleriay), Seattle, Washington; two daughters, Settie B. Devers Dorsey (Forrest), Los Angeles, California; Martha Devers Hall (David), Altadena, California; thirty-five (35) grandchildren, forty-nine (49) great-grandchildren, four brothers, Mr. Jessie Devers, Dallas, Texas; Mr. Joe Devers, Jefferson, Texas; Mr. Elbert Devers III, Shreveport, Louisiana; Mr. Melvin Devers, Los Angeles, California; two step-brothers, Mr. Tom Washington and Mr. Sam Washington of Los Angeles, California; two step-sisters, Ammie Washington Bullock and Mrs. Willie Mae Washington McDowell of Los Angeles, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Special Recognition was given to Mr. Jessie James Ware and Ms. Mary Lou Oliver for their continuous care given during the illness of our father!!
